As I
write this post it’s about 3:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and I’m
watching a rerun of Mexico-One Plate at a Time. Rick Bayless is
extolling the history of pulque and
Oaxacan street cuisine, and I’m getting a little hungry. Ok, I
have no plans to go out tonight, not even watch service at my church,
The Inspiring Body of Christ Church in Dallas. I’ve never been one
to be out and about on New Year’s Eve, anyway. I’m staying home
with plans to thank God for allowing me and mine another year and
just hanging out with the family. Nothing extravagant tonight- a
chicken is roasted, the refried beans are done, the salsa, guacamole
and tortillas are ready. The jamaica gelato
is made (chock full of black cherries and big fat raspberries that
I’ve hoarded in the deep freeze), and I’m
chillin’.
I’m feeling really
grateful for family and friends and God’s plans to give me a hope
and a future. I’m feeling a deep sense of gratitude for faithful
friends/customers who love my work and talk it up every chance they
get. I truly feel blessed to be able to share this gift of being
able to teach something that I love and watch the lights go on for
teenagers who were initially griping that their counselor “made me
take art without my consent” and voilà, now they kinda love it and
are asking, “What all is involved with doing this as a major?”
It’s truly an honor to be a creative ambassador! Art is seamless
with my concept of life and I pray that it will always be this way.
I was boho from the get-go.
Even before Caprichos Studio was hatched from a random conversation with a roommate from someplace a world away while a grad student in Madison, Wisconsin a real long time ago.
Anyhoo…this year, like
every year, is full of new hopes and dreams and plans for Caprichos
Studio, and I want to let you in on one that I am really excited
about and have always wanted to do. I love love love doodling,
mehendi and encouraging words. I’m also besotted with calendars.
This year I’m doing a FREE calendar for all of my subscribers- a
page of original art for every month that can be colored with markers
or colored pencils. All designs are copyright protected and I ask is
that you don’t copy, alter or distribute the images, period.
They’re a heck of a lot of fun and are a joyful diversion (kinda
like Pinterest), and I hope that you’ll enjoy them, too! Just right click, cut, copy and paste. Print it out on a sheet of cardstock.
Have fun!
Have fun!

You’ll be privy to my Bohochic fantasies and stuff that makes me just squeal and run to the studio to give an idea a test run or snatch up a sketch book and get to work.
